Designs For Non-Technical People
Our web design services are aimed at customers who have
little or no technical knowledge and need a designer who can
speak English and not just computerese. We take the confusion
out of making your website. We are very good at creating the
"look" for your website that you want the most. And
our rates make our personal service highly affordable.
Virginia Host offers two design rates.
For customers who host their websites with us, we cut 60%
off our normal rate and charge only $25/hour. On average, a
basic page consisting of text and a few photos (supplied by
you) takes an hour
to create. Thus, you can assume a cost of $25/page. And with our
low-cost hosting rate of just $120 a year ($10 a month, paid
annually), this is our most popular package.
For customers who host their websites elsewhere, we charge
our full $60/hour rate. You may have seen web hosting services
that charge less than our $10/month hosting rate. So have we.
In fact, we offer one of our
own for Do It Yourself types who know their way around a
website.
But if you don't know anything about web page coding or how
to work with web hosting services that give you little more
than a control panel and a customer service number and let you
figure out the rest for yourself, you'll find that such
bargains aren't much of a bargain. The amount of time and
money you spend on them simply because you aren't an expert
will cost you far more than any savings you would have
realized.
Our $25/hour web design program for customers who host with
us is tailor-made for average people who don't know anything
about setting up and running websites. This covers
approximately 99% of the human population on Earth. That's why
our program is so popular.
You may be wondering about the $25 per page rate we
discussed on the home page. How does $25/hour translate into
$25 a page? It's simple. On average, a basic web page
consisting mainly of text, a photo or two, and a nice layout
takes an average of one hour to code. It varies of course, and
the home page is usually the most time-consuming (because it
defines the "look" for the rest of the website), but
on average it works out to about an hour per page.
How We Incorporate Your Tastes Into Your Website
It's simple. We send you surfing. Just find some websites
you like that have some of the elements you want in your site.
They do not have to be about the same subject as your
website. They can be about anything. Design usually transcends
subject matter.
Send us the URLs (website addresses) with your order along
with a brief description of what specifically you like about
each of them and what you don't like about them. (The
contrast of like and don't like is extremely important.) Send
us 3-4 URLs to look at with your descriptions about what you
like and don't like about them, and we'll get a pretty
good idea what you want your site to look like.
You can also have us use a template that you found
available for sale or use on the web. See our templates
page to learn more about the advantages and pitfalls of
this approach.
How Long Will It Take To Finish Your New Website?
It's always hard to answer this question without knowing
the details of your project, but we can answer in general. In
most cases, once we have all the materials from you for your
website, we'll build your home page within two business days.
We need from you:
- The text for each page you want to include in your
website
- All photos you want us to use
- Any logo you might have that you want us to use
- The results of your web surfing (described above) that
will help us understand what you want your website to look
like.
After we build the home page, we'll present it to you for
your approval. Once you approve it, we'll use it as the
overall "look" for building the rest of your website. Unless
your site has a whole lot of pages (or needs more than just
the basics, such as a custom-built shopping cart, flash
graphics, and other time-consuming activities), in most cases
we'll be able to finish the entire site in about a week.
