We have done a lot of work in recent years for businesses in northern VS, particularly with web designs, but before we begin to create your website, we create mockups first. The reason is simple. As much as we would like to be able to read our customers' minds, we find that we are unable to do so! Perhaps one of these days an online mind-reading device will be developed that will allow us to see the world through a virtual tour of our customers' minds, but until that happens, we have to do mockups instead.

A mockup is an artistic rendering of what your northern VA web designs will look like. We always try to get input from you in advance to give us some idea of what you want your site to look like. However, even with this information in hand, the odds against us getting it right on the first attempt are very much against us.

That's why at Virginia Host we recommend that you agree to have us create 3-5 mockups of your web designs. We start with a single mockup and run it by you for your review. What you'll see is a rendering of what your home page will look like, although the text displayed in the mockup may be generic, plug-in text just to show you where the text will go. We show you the mockup and get your reaction to it. If there are parts of it you like, we'll incorporate those parts in the next attempt. Usually, there are at least some parts that you'll like. However, even if it turns out that you don't like any of it, we'll go to a second mockup based on that input.

The key to doing a successful northern VA web design starts with the mockups, and by the time we get to the second mockup we usually have a much better idea of what you're hoping for with your site's look-and-feel. By this point, we usually know more about the kind of color palette you are hoping for, what you've been thinking about regarding placement of elements on the page, and perhaps even some basic ideas regarding the headline and main message on the home page.

We are able to put these ideas together because at the same time that our graphic artists are creating the mockups, and even beforehand, we do research on the most important keywords for your northern VA web site from a search engine perspective. We try to zero in on those keywords that Google tells us are actively searched by prospective customers so we can emphasize those keywords.

As everyone in business knows these days, the era of the yellow pages and the phone book are in the past. Today, people take their cues from the Internet. So it's important to identify the best way for your target market to find your site as early as possible in the design process.

The third designs mockup is usually where we're really zeroing in on what you want, because you've already seen two very different initial looks, and the feedback you've given us makes it likely that this will be the mockup where we finally hit the bullseye.

There are always a small percentage of customers, of course, who have very particular tastes that are difficult to hit, so on rare occasions it can become necessary to do a fourth mockup, and very occasionally even a fifth one. But for the most part, it's something we can hit with the first three for at least 80-90% of our customers.
